Who is Randall Olvera?

My Story. My Strategy

I’m Randall Olvera — an Instructional Designer and Human Performance Improvement (HPI) practitioner with a passion for building smart, impactful learning experiences. With a background in education and a strong foundation in adult learning theory, I specialize in designing eLearning, streamlining processes, and aligning training solutions with business goals.


Whether I’m creating interactive modules, improving workflows, or conducting front-end analysis, I focus on solving real problems that affect performance. I’ve developed solutions for state agencies, higher education, and technical industries using tools like Articulate Storyline, Canvas LMS, and JIRA.

Summary:
Developed a scenario-based eLearning module to train state project managers on a new IT project intake process. Designed interactive assessments, aligned with SOPs, and ensured accessibility compliance. 


Highlights:

Created a web-based course for educators to understand and apply usability and accessibility principles in instructional design. Included interactive modules, multimedia lessons, and embedded accessibility tools.

Tools Used: Canvas LMS, multimedia creation, UDL principles, JIRA, ThingLink, H5P, MindMeister, Miro, Photoshop, Premier Pro


Summary:
Collaborated with cross-functional teams to streamline technology adoption requests from faculty. Designed a structured, user-friendly intake workflow using JIRA and produced user-facing documentation and visuals.

Tools Used: HPI Model, Cause Analysis, Benchmarking, Gilbert's Behavior Engineering Model, Six Cell Gap Analysis, Lewins Change Theory, Full-Scope Evaluation, Presentation Design


Summary:
As part of the International Society for Performance Improvement University Case Study Competition, collaborated with a consulting team to analyze performance issues and propose workforce solutions for a commercial refrigeration company. Applied the HPI model to investigate root causes of technician shortages and performance gaps.


Highlights:

  • Conducted gap and cause analysis using environmental and individual performance factors
  • Proposed solutions including onboarding redesign, career pathing, and AI-driven technician support
  • Delivered a strategic presentation to industry professionals, company stakeholders and ISPI judges
